Collective Coulomb blockade in an array of quantum dots: A Mott-Hubbard approach.

چکیده
We investigate the electron addition spectrum in a class of Hubbard-like models which describe arrays of coupled quantum dots. Interdot tunneling leads to a sequence of two phase transitions separating a region of collective Coulomb blockade from a region where the Coulomb blockade of individual dots is maintained and a region where the Coulomb blockade is destroyed altogether. Observable experimental consequences of our theory are discussed. PACS numbers: 73.20.Dx, 73.40.Gk, 71.27.+a Typeset using REVTEX

Addition spectrum, persistent current, and spin polarization in coupled quantum dot arrays: Coherence, correlation, and disorder
The ground-state persistent current and electron addition spectrum in two-dimensional quantum dot arrays and one-dimensional quantum dot rings, pierced by an external magnetic flux, are investigated using the extended Hubbard model. The collective multidot problem is shown to map exactly into the strong-field noninteracting finite-size Hofstadter butterfly problem at the spin polarization trans...

متن کاملNonlinear Transport through Coupled Double Quantum Dot Systems
We investigate sequential tunneling transport through a semiconductor double quantum dot structure by combining a simple microscopic quantum confinement model with a Mott-Hubbard type correlation model. We calculate nonperturbatively the evolution of the Coulomb blockade oscillations as a function of the interdot barrier conductance, obtaining good qualitative agreement with the experimental da...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional Mott-Hubbard electrons in an artificial honeycomb lattice.
Artificial crystal lattices can be used to tune repulsive Coulomb interactions between electrons. We trapped electrons, confined as a two-dimensional gas in a gallium arsenide quantum well, in a nanofabricated lattice with honeycomb geometry. We probed the excitation spectrum in a magnetic field, identifying collective modes that emerged from the Coulomb interaction in the artificial lattice, a...
متن کاملCoulomb effects in artificial molecules
We study the capacitance spectra of artificial molecules consisting of two and three coupled quantum dots from an extended Hubbard Hamiltonian model that takes into account quantum confinement, intraand inter-dot Coulomb interaction and tunneling coupling between all single particle states in nearest neighbor dots. We find that, for weak coupling, the interdot Coulomb interaction dominates the ...
